D-FW Designers’ Minimalist Spaces Show the Power of Paring Back: Dark Matter
Written by Mary Grace Granados
You can take a less-is-more approach throughout your home or in strategic rooms.
Minimalism may seem like it would be simple to execute compared with other design strategies. Pick an understated color, add a a few accessories to your key furnishings and your room is complete. But minimalism is deceptive in its simplicity. It requires a highly thoughtful approach; after all, the goal is to achieve major impact with fewer items of furniture and accessories. Every piece must be intentionally selected to serve a distinct purpose and yet seamlessly contribute to a sense of harmony.
Clearly, pared-back design is an art. And like any art form, we have plenty to learn from the masters. Peruse these rooms, all of which embody some form of minimalist principles, to see how Dallas interior experts achieve more with less.
Dark Matter
Speaking of colors, whites and taupes don’t necessarily need to be the base for a minimalist room. Designer Joshua Rice chose grays and blacks for this living space that embraces modern minimalism. “My philosophy centers around avoiding the use of ornamentation for its own sake,” he says. “Whether it’s a piece of furniture, artwork or any object, I believe it should have a purpose for being there — be it functional, intriguing or simply beautiful.”
