Refined, Thoughtfully Designed Spaces
Joshua Rice Design (est. 2007) is a multidisciplinary studio specializing in interior design, renovations, new construction, and custom furnishings. Their work focuses on creating refined, timeless spaces that feel warm and personal. With a meticulous eye for detail and a love for natural materials, they embrace simplicity over excess, delivering luxurious yet inviting modern designs.
This project transformed a semi-traditional Dallas residence, originally defined by its grand entry and oversized, purpose-specific rooms. Though well-constructed, the home lacked architectural cohesion. Through subtle yet impactful renovations and a thoughtful curation of furniture, art, and design, each space was reimagined for enhanced functionality, comfort, and harmony.
In the double-height stair hall, a rare Fabricius/Kastholm wall sofa pairs with 1960s Danish mohair footstools. Above hangs minimalist artwork by Otis Jones.
The formal living area centers on a custom steel table by Douglas Fanning, surrounded by a Massproductions curved sofa and vintage Danish chairs by Ib Kofod-Larsen. A ceramic work by Brie Ruais and ceiling lighting by Hans Verstuyft complete the room.
The entry showcases a custom oak cabinet by Stefan White, paired with a sculptural piece by Leonardo Drew. Opposite, a modern Viennese-style bench by Jonas Bohlin sits below a Synchrodogs photograph. A commissioned wooden screen by Andrea Macruz highlights the stair hall alongside vintage Sven Ellekaer furniture. Nearby, the formal dining features a rush-fronted cabinet by Emmemobili, a Robert Winslow marble sculpture, and a Claro walnut dining table by Jeff Martin Joinery.
The blue office includes an Osvaldo Borsani desk, vintage Sven Ivar Dysthe chairs, and vitrines by Dessie. Above the fireplace is a sculptural piece by Hiroyuki Hamada. The breakfast room features a Davide Balliano painting and a Charlotte Perriand table, while the family room displays contemporary furnishings and a Jessica Drenk sculpture.
The primary bedroom, divided into sleeping and lounging zones, includes a BDDW canopy bed, custom bedside tables, and a lounge table by Marcin Rusak. Flemming Lassen lounge chairs and art by Benjamin Terry, Matthew Allen, and Kozo Takeuchi create a serene yet striking atmosphere.
