A modernist Preston Hollow residence organized around architecture, family life, and a highly considered lighting program. Architecture by Bernbaum/Magadini, the home integrates an advanced LED system led by Scott Oldner in close collaboration with the client, allowing color, intensity, and atmosphere to shift throughout the day. The result is a dynamic interior condition that required a disciplined, highly controlled response.

Joshua Rice Design approached the interiors as a stabilizing layer within that variability. Rather than competing with the lighting, the work establishes a clear material and spatial framework for it to operate within. Pale woods, darkened steel, soft textiles, and restrained stone surfaces create a consistent baseline, allowing changes in light to register cleanly without visual interference.

Furnishings are edited and architectural in character. Low, grounded seating anchors the primary rooms, while sculptural tables and minimal casework introduce form without excess. Art is used sparingly, often in reduced palettes, reinforcing a sense of restraint and continuity. Each element is placed with enough intention to hold its own, but never so much that it disrupts the larger composition.

Circulation remains open and legible, with long views and controlled transitions between spaces. Private rooms soften slightly through texture and proportion, though the overall language stays consistent. The project demonstrates restraint as a practical design tool, allowing architecture and light to carry the experience while maintaining a home that feels calm, livable, and quietly precise.
