A sprawling single-story Dallas residence originally built in the early 1980s, Bent Trail was transformed from a closed, disjointed plan into a light-filled modern home organized around clarity, long views, and a stronger connection to its creek-side setting. The renovation reworks the house into something more legible, where movement, light, and proportion feel intentional rather than incidental.

Joshua Rice Design worked alongside architect Marc McCollum as the scope expanded, focusing on both the architectural interior and the furnishing of the home. Strategic removal of walls created a nearly 150-foot visual axis through the primary living spaces, establishing a sense of orientation and calm continuity.

The material palette is grounded and consistent. White oak flooring, Venetian plaster walls, teak cabinetry, bronze accents, and blackened steel establish a quiet framework that allows the architecture to read clearly. Within that structure, the interiors are layered with rare and curated furniture, with a strong emphasis on Brazilian modernist works. Sculptural seating, carved wood pieces, and low, expressive tables introduce warmth and individuality without disrupting the discipline of the space. The project reflects a measured approach to renovation. Rather than impose a new identity, the work clarifies what was already present, then refines it through proportion, material, and careful selection.
