Bent Trail is a sprawling single-story Dallas residence from the early 1980s, reworked into a more coherent and light-filled home. Joshua Rice Design partnered with architect Marc McCollum as the project expanded, focusing on the architectural interior and the furnishing of the residence as a single exercise.
The renovation transformed a closed and disjointed plan into a sequence of spaces organized by clarity, long views, and a stronger connection to the creek-side setting. Strategic removal of walls established a visual axis of nearly 150 feet through the primary living areas, giving the house a stronger sense of order and orientation.
A restrained material palette of white oak flooring, Venetian plaster, teak cabinetry, bronze accents, and blackened steel provides continuity throughout. Within that framework, the interiors were layered with rare and carefully selected furniture, including a strong concentration of Brazilian modernist work. Sculptural seating, carved wood pieces, and low expressive tables introduce warmth and individuality without weakening the discipline of the architecture. The result is a measured renovation that brings precision, calm, and stronger architectural legibility to the home.
