LOCATION

Hill Country, Texas

An expansive Hill Country residence defined by scale, landscape, limestone architecture, and a substantial collection of contemporary art and collectible design. Joshua Rice Design shaped the interiors around the beautiful architecture and the home’s relationship to its site, allowing the interiors to capitalize on the broad glass walls, long views, and natural materials which established the foundation for the interior aesthetic.

The interior design balances monumentality with livability. Custom furnishings, sculptural objects, and carefully placed works of art give the house intimacy without diminishing its architectural scale. Rather than over-decorating a large residence, the design relies on proportion, material continuity, and restraint. Stone, wood, glass, and carefully selected furnishings create a sense of permanence while allowing the landscape to remain central. The project reads as a private retreat, but one with considerable architectural and cultural weight.
